Information
A giant red dragon with a purple, three-pronged, hook-like tail. Assumed by the people of Petalburg to be male, she's actually a girl. She got terrible food poisoning once from eating a cricket, and as a result will be unable to fight at her full strength if she so much as hears a similar noise to their chirping. In Japanese, it was a frog instead of a cricket, which carried over into the remake. The remake also has everyone know that Hooktail is a girl from the beginning.
Notes
- ~Capable of flying, but does not fly in battle; earthquakes hit her, but she can move between elevation levels
- ~Any attack involving noises that resemble cricket chirping that strikes Hooktail will, in addition to its normal effects, reduce Hooktail's base Attack Power, Defense Power, and Brain Power by 1, with Attack having a minimum of 1 and Defense and Brain having a minimum of 0. (Hooktail's fire attack, despite dealing a plain 4 damage instead of a modification of her Attack Power, will also fall by 1 each time, also until a minimum of 1.) Multiple-hit attacks induce multiple doses of weakening so long as all hits make cricket noises. The effect wears off at the end of battle.
- ~Upon losing all HP, Hooktail will converse with the opponents and attempt to entice one of them forward with promises of various gifts. If anyone falls for this, Hooktail will get a free action to bite that person for 5 damage, and this attack will deal 5 regardless of her current level of cricket-induced queasiness.
- ~Following the above trickery (whether successful or not), Hooktail will move offstage and eat several members of the audience watching the battle, healing 10 HP and 10 VP. Once her HP is emptied again, she fully dies.
