Information
Like the name implies, it's a crocodile-like monster that hides under the sand, waiting for you to step above it so that it can lunch on you. Naturally, they inhabit the Sand Zone, but they or their relatives might appear in patches of sand in other areas as well. Until they've popped up to try and eat you, they're only vulnerable to attacks that can hit underground targets.
Notes
- A Sandcroc alternates between hiding underground and having its head exposed above the sand, where it's vulnerable to attacks like a normal grounded target. While underground, they can only be hit by psychic attacks and earthquake-type attacks, just like a character who has the Underground Status Benefit, but a Sandcroc being underground doesn't count as a Status Condition, and it therefore can't be forced aboveground by items or abilities that remove Status Conditions. Being ambush predators, the players will generally be unaware that Sandcrocs are even present in battle until they first emerge to attack, unless a Sandcroc has made a First Strike, in which case its attack cycle will be offset compared to any other Sandcrocs in the same battle. Even if a multitarget psychic or earthquake-like attack damages Sandcrocs before they've been revealed, the attacker may not be made aware of their presence. However, a character preparing to use a single-target psychic attack might sense a Sandcroc's mind as a potential target, revealing its existence without using up that character's turn.
